چکیده

We have developed a new protocol involving the “copper(II) chloride-cesium carbonate” system for the aerobic oxidation of primary alcohols. Cesium carbonates and the solvents such as toluene and 1,2-dichloroethane play important roles to form a catalytically active intermediate containing a m-hydroxyl-bridged trinuclear copper moiety (complex 1). From the X-ray crystal structure of complex 1, an electrostatic interaction between chloride anions and cesium cations was observed, which stimulated us to understand the roles of cesium carbonate in this reaction as a base, stabilizing and “solvating” intermediates in toluene and 1,2-dichloroethane.

Aerobic copper/TEMPO-catalyzed oxidation of primary alcohols to aldehydes using a microbubble strategy to increase gas concentration in liquid phase reactions.

An efficient method for the synthesis of aldehydes was achieved by using air-microbubble techniques in aerobic copper/TEMPO-catalyzed oxidation of primary alcohols. Use of air-microbubbles to improve gas absorption into liquid phase is proven to be highly beneficial for gas/liquid phase reactions.

L-Proline: an efficient N,O-bidentate ligand for copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidation of primary and secondary benzylic alcohols at room temperature.

A novel and highly practical copper-catalyzed aerobic alcohol oxidation system with L-proline as the ligand at room temperature has been developed. A wide range of primary and secondary benzylic alcohols tested have been smoothly transformed into corresponding aldehydes and ketones with high yields and selectivities.

Copper(I)/ABNO-catalyzed aerobic alcohol oxidation: alleviating steric and electronic constraints of Cu/TEMPO catalyst systems.

Cu/TEMPO catalyst systems promote efficient aerobic oxidation of sterically unhindered primary alcohols and electronically activated substrates, but they show reduced reactivity with aliphatic and secondary alcohols. Here, we report a catalyst system, consisting of ((MeO)bpy)Cu(I)(OTf) and ABNO ((MeO)bpy = 4,4'-dimethoxy-2,2'-bipyridine; ABNO = 9-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane N-oxyl), that mediates a...

Copper-Catalyzed Oxidation of Alcohols to Aldehydes and Ketones: An Efficient, Aerobic Alternative

An efficient, copper-based catalyst has been discovered that oxidizes a wide range of alcohols into aldehydes and ketones under mild conditions. This catalytic system utilizes oxygen or air as the ultimate, stoichiometric oxidant, producing water as the only by-product.

Copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative synthesis of aryl nitriles from benzylic alcohols and aqueous ammonia.

Copper-catalyzed direct conversion of benzylic alcohols to aryl nitriles was realized using NH3(aq.) as the nitrogen source, O2 as the oxidant and TEMPO as the co-catalyst. Furthermore, copper-catalyzed one-pot synthesis of primary aryl amides from alcohols was also achieved.
